Hello, my name is Charlie Pogue. I’m a mixed media artist based out of Knoxville TN. My work would best be described as a mix of symbolism and expressionism. My art uses universal imagery imfused with my individual feelings and emotions. I use symbols to bring the abstract into form in a way that creates open-ended meaning. I’m inspired by nature, archetypes, myth, and animism. My motivation to create is driven by the idea that artwork can be imbued with a spiritual essence and can transcend mere aesthetics. I am on the impossible quest to create the perfect object, and that is what keeps me going. I believe that in the West we have largely lost our right brain ability to analyze and find meaning in imagery, and I hope that my work can help inspire others to reclaim this vital part of ourselves.
